Test rename patterns on your filenames before touching real files — prefix, suffix, regex, numbering, and more
- Paste filenames — one per line
- Stack rename operations: prefix, suffix, find-replace, regex, numbering, date, case change
- See the before-and-after preview instantly and copy the results
Proof: 9 rename operations that stack and chain — build complex patterns visually
Preview how your filenames will look after renaming — before you touch a single file. Stack multiple operations and see results instantly.
- 9 operations: prefix, suffix, find-replace, regex, numbering, date stamp, case change, extension change, and trim/clean.
- Operations chain together so you can build complex rename patterns step by step.
- Copy the renamed filenames or hand them to Renamed.to to apply renames to real files automatically.
100% browser-side. Your filenames never leave your machine.
Renaming files in bulk is risky without a preview. One wrong regex and you have 500 files named undefined_001.pdf. This tool lets you test every pattern on your actual filenames first, then copy or export the results when you are satisfied.
Free, no signup, and 100% browser-side until you connect Renamed.to for automation.

How bulk rename preview works
1. Paste filenames in bulk
Paste filenames from a spreadsheet, terminal output, or file listing. The tool accepts one filename per line and handles hundreds at once. No file uploads needed—just the names.
2. Stack and chain operations
Add rename operations one at a time. Each operation is applied in sequence, so you can build complex patterns visually: first add a date prefix, then convert to lowercase, then replace spaces with hyphens. The live preview updates after every change.
3. Copy results or apply with Renamed.to
When the preview looks right, copy the renamed filenames and use them in your own scripts, or drag your files into Renamed.to to apply the renames automatically. The AI reads each document and applies your naming pattern at 500 files per minute.
Available operations
Each operation can be used alone or stacked with others. They are applied in the order you add them.
Add prefix
Prepend text to the beginning of every filename. Useful for adding dates, project codes, or client names.
Add suffix
Append text before the file extension. Great for version numbers, status labels, or initials.
Find and replace
Replace any text in the filename with something else. Swap spaces for hyphens, fix typos, or update naming conventions.
Regex replace
Use regular expressions with capture groups for advanced pattern matching and replacement.
Sequential numbering
Add sequential numbers to filenames. Configure start number, step, padding, and position.
Date stamp
Insert today's date or a custom date in any format: YYYY-MM-DD, DD.MM.YYYY, YYYYMMDD, and more.
Case change
Convert filenames to lowercase, UPPERCASE, Title Case, or camelCase for consistent naming.
Extension change
Replace or remove file extensions across all files at once. Useful when converting formats.
Trim and clean
Remove leading/trailing spaces, double spaces, special characters, or truncate filenames to a max length.
You just previewed the renames. Now apply them to real files.

Frequently asked questions
Can I apply these renames to real files?
This tool previews renames only — it does not touch your actual files. To apply renames to real files, copy the results and use a rename script, or drag your files into Renamed.to which applies AI-powered naming patterns automatically at 500 files per minute.
Does regex replace support capture groups?
Yes. Use parentheses in your regex pattern to create capture groups and reference them in the replacement string with $1, $2, and so on. For example, matching (\d{4})-(\d{2}) and replacing with $2_$1 swaps year and month segments.
What happens to file extensions when I rename?
Most operations preserve file extensions by default. Prefix and suffix are applied to the filename stem, not the extension. Find-replace and regex operate on the full filename including extension, giving you full control when you need it.
Can I combine multiple rename operations?
Yes. Operations stack and chain in the order you add them. For example, you can add a date prefix, then convert to lowercase, then replace spaces with hyphens — all in one pass. The preview updates live so you can see the cumulative effect of every change.
Is there a limit on how many filenames I can preview?
No hard limit. The tool runs entirely in your browser, so performance depends on your device. It handles hundreds of filenames without issue. For very large batches (10,000+), you may notice a slight delay in the live preview.
